Freightliner Adds New SD Vocational trucks to its Commercial Line-up

Freightliner recently renewed their line up of vocational trucks by adding two new SD or Severe Duty models to it. These are the 114SD and the 108SD. These trucks will fill up the gap left by the discontinuation of the vocational trucks from Sterling in the industry.
Freightliner’s strategy and marketing general manager, David Hames, apart from the Coronado 122SD truck, the new trucks will be joining the M2 Business Class of medium duty trucks and the Coronado and Cascadia over the road models, which will give the truck manufacturer a complete line up of commercial trucks.
The new trucks were recently unveiled at the Conexpo-Con/ Agg show during their press conference. These two trucks are built for vocational, heavy applications like, cranes, dumps, roll-offs and mixers. Both of these trucks will be built at the Mt. Holly, Freightliner plant.
The 108SD truck has a front axle that is set back 42 inches with ratings of 10,000 pounds to 20,000 pounds. They cab be available with either tandem or single rear axles with payload capacities till 46,000 pounds. The engine choices that are offered with this truck include Cummins ISC and ISB diesel engines which have power ratings ranging from 200 hp to 350 hp and torques ranging from 520 pounds feet to 1,000 pounds feet.
Meanwhile the 114SD truck is to be offered in two different models. While one model has a set forward configuration axle, the other model will have a set back configuration axle. The capacities of the front axle will be till 23,000 pounds, while the ratings of the rear axle will be till 38,000 pounds for the single axle, as for the tandem axle, the ratings will be till 58,000 pounds and till 69,000 pounds for a tridem axle.
The 114SD truck will be powered by a diesel DD13 Detroit engine, having power ratings ranging from 350 hp to 450 hp, while the peak torques range from 660 pounds feet to 1,300 pounds feet. The optional engines include the diesel Cummins ISL and ISC engine and the factory built ISL/ G Cummins natural gas powered engine.
According to the vocational sales’ general manager, Richard Saward, both the SD trucks will have a cab composed of steel reinforced aluminum, which will be based on M2 Business Classes’ cab. The versions which will be offered include crew, extended and day. Both of the cabs are available in either double or single channel frame rails so that they fit a host of different work applications.
