Chevrolet Truck El Camino Could Still Make It To American Shores

According to recent reports the El Camino Chevrolet truck is still in the running for competing in the US pickup trucks market. This truck still has its approval pending for production depending on the rates of gas prices.

If the truck manages to get a green signal; however, ute could launch this truck for the 2013 model year. The documents which have been obtained by the GMI have listed this truck, as being under the Z2RC program code.

GM had earlier announced their plans to bring the VE Ute who to American shores as the G8 Pontiac sport truck during the auto show in New York in the year 2007. Development work to make the truck US specific was also carried out, which included engineering the side air bags so that they met the federal standards of safety; however the project got cancelled before even one Sport Truck could make it to the showroom.

The VE Ute unibody was based on the global Zeta platform of rear wheel drive. The Zeta will underpin new sets of vehicles which includes Chevy Camaro and the Holden Commodore trucks.
